RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of Temple Emanu-El’s executive committee, the temple administrator manages the non-ritual activities of the congregation. In partnership with the board of directors and clergy, the temple administrator has three primary responsibilities: 1) ensure the smooth administrative operation of the temple, 2) oversee the fiscal health of the institution, and 3) engage current and future TempleEmanu-El members in temple life.

The temple administrator’s duties include, but are not limited to:

Day-to-day operation of the temple, creating and designing efficient systems and implementing procedures necessary for the smooth and efficient administrative functioning of the temple.

Coordinating all activities and functions, including overseeing the temple calendar and ensuring that calendaring functions run smoothly.

Acting as temple liaison with building tenants.

Overseeing all aspects of High Holy Days planning from June to October including mailings, ticket requests, maintenance personnel scheduling and duties, building preparedness, and assisting clergy with regard to service times, pulpit honors, and other planning requirements.

Supervising the maintenance of the facility, ensuring orderliness and care of the building, developing maintenance schedules, and coordinating and supervising board-approved repairs and renovations.
Controlling and supervising accounting-related functions, including dues collection, accounts receivables, accounts payable, past due collections, and all temple bank accounts to ensure board’s fiduciary responsibilities are being met.

In collaboration with the treasurer, supervising the preparation of financial reports and preparing the annual budget (both operating and capital) with input from the appropriate lay leaders, and supervising implementation of the working budget.

In collaboration with the membership committee, developing strategies to increase membership and welcome new and prospective members. Serving as initial contact with potential members, providing information regarding worship, education, and committee opportunities in addition to dues information and other matters of interest. Troubleshooting issues and serving as point of contact for member concerns. Conducting interviews with exiting members and sharing suggestions for improvements with the board of directors and clergy.

Coordinating with lay leaders of the temple to promote and publicize programs, initiatives, and activities.

Overseeing and monitoring synagogue information technology. This includes identifying needs and vendors to implement and improve existing systems. The candidate should be comfortable with various office application software, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and QuickBooks. The candidate will also be able to learn synagogue-specific software (e.g. ShalomCloud).

Working with the communications director, producing public relations and marketing materials and weekly and monthly publications and managing the temple’s website and social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate the following:

Minimum 3 years experience in busy office or non-profit environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong time management skills, including the ability to multitask and prioritize work activities
Thoroughness, accuracy, and dependability
Proven personal integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to work with a variety of people and personalities with patience and respect
Flexibility and ability to adapt to changes in the work environment
